At the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, July 22, commissioners approved a resolution to support the funding and development for the national Steamboat Museum at Marshall Junction.
Presiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey Jr. read the resolution. He said the National Steamboat Museum is a “not-for-profit” 501C3 tax-deductible organization.
Guthrey said 37,000 vehicles pass through the Marshall Junction area every day.
The resolution says the National Steamboat Museum will be of Smithsonian quality, state-of-the-art, interactive, an age-appropriate exhibit, where visitors will not only see how cargo changed over the years, but will be immersed in the history of that decade.
Guthrey pointed out the county has not committed any funding to the project.
