Slater Superintendent Debbie Gonzalez has sent out a letter to inform patrons of the district about what is going on relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gonzalez’s letter says “While we are very excited to see everyone back in our buildings, we are still in the midst of the COVID 19 (pandemic) and want to keep our families and community informed. We continue to monitor the numbers of our county and discussions with our Saline County Health Department.”

Gonzalez adds, “As of today, masks will be an option for both staff and students who are in our buildings. Masks will be worn while on school buses per federal order – Executive Order No. 13998, “order applies to state and local conveyance operators (public schools), and passengers onboard such conveyances. The order also applies to private school buses because these are conveyances operated for a non-personal, commercial use.”

Gonzalez says the district will continue with the cleaning processes that were put into effect last school year.

According to Gonzalez, hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes are in every classroom and throughout the hallways. Students PK through fifth-grade will receive a school-issued water bottle that will be cleaned daily. The district’s “Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan”- which outlines more information- can be found on the district’s website: www.slaterschools.net.

Gonzalez also says, “We appreciate you allowing us to educate your child, and know that their care is our utmost priority. It is important we all stay flexible as procedures may change at a moment’s notice for the safety of our students and staff.”

The first day of school in Slater is scheduled for Tuesday, August 24.
