With the first day of school approaching fast, the Marshall Public School Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher has issued a reminder regarding face mask.

During a special meeting of the Marshall School Board on Friday, August 20, the board voted 4-2 in favor of optional mask wearing.

School officials say wearing face masks on buses will remain a requirement, per federal law.

According to an email from Dr. Carol Maher, “It is federal law that all individuals riding a school bus must be masked. Masks will be available on the bus but if refused, the individual(s) may not board the bus. This federal law cannot be overturned by the MPS or other districts’ Boards of Education or administration. Bus drivers must follow this directive also.”

The first day of school for Marshall Public Schools starts on Tuesday, August 24.
