A Gilliam man who has been charged with felonies after he allegedly led a law-enforcement officer on a high-speed pursuit on August 12 has a court proceeding set for this week.
According to a Saline County Sheriff’s report, a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle, but the driver did not stop. Steven Kohlenberg is alleged to have driven away from the attempted traffic stop and traveled at 70 miles per hour on Ben Garth Lane- a gravel road. The deputy says the pursuit continued, with the SUV traveling between 70 and 75 miles per hour at one point. Kohlenberg’s vehicle eventually left the roadway and traveled about 60 yards into a cornfield. Kohlenberg fled the scene and was unable to be located at that time.
According to court documents, Kohlenberg is charged with felonies for resisting arrest, detention or stop by fleeing and operating a vehicle without a valid license; and a misdemeanor for crop damage. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only.
Kohlenberg was served the warrant and was arraigned on August 26. A confined-docket hearing is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, at Saline County Circuit Court.
