During the Marshall Municipal Utilities meeting, board members approved the motion to proceed in the application process for the Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities Finance program on Friday, September 3.

The MAMU Finance program can provide funding up to $9.1 million to pay for improvements at the Wastewater Treatment plant.

General Manager Jeff Bergstrom says the American Rescue Plan Act is an option to assist with the improvements, however ARPA funding for the project is not guaranteed.

Bergstrom explained MMU has requested approximately $6 million of funding through ARPA.

Bergstrom continued that the timeliness of the improvements on the Wastewater Treatmeant Plant is critical.

In other news, the board also approved a no-action item, stating the renewal of its agreement with the Marshall-Saline Development Corporation, which ends September 30 of each year. As part of the agreement MMU pays MSDC $30,000 annually in exchange for MSDC’s economic development efforts.

The automatic renewal will continue funding the agreement through September 30, 2022.
