
Two inmates at an area jail facing charges for allegedly soliciting introduction of illegal contraband to the jail from an outside source in May have court proceedings set for this week.
According to probable-cause statements, authorities at the Boonville Correctional Center allege Joshua B. Thigpen and Armon R. Simpson each placed a phone call to a man on parole to check on the status of packages being sent to the jail.
On May 10, the mail room intercepted three envelopes that tested positive for synthetic cannabinoids.
According to court documents, Thigpen and Simpson each is charged with a felony for delivery or possession of a controlled substance at a county jail.
Thigpen and Simpson each pleaded not guilty while being arraigned on July 13. A preliminary hearing for Thigpen and counsel-status hearing for Simpson are scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 10, at Cooper County Circuit Court.
