Despite 12 more positive cases of COVID-19 being confirmed, the number of active COVID-19 cases dropped in Lafayette County on Thursday, September 9.

According to the Lafayette County Health Department, there were 87 active cases, down from 96 the day before. However, another COVID-19-related death raised the county’s total to 67 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The number of persons hospitalized due to the virus remained at 15.

The health department has confirmed a total of 3,372 cases of COVID-19 in Lafayette County to date.

There have been 55 new PCR cases since the last weekly report on September 2.

Per the CDC, 43.6 percent of people in Lafayette County have initiated the first dose of their vaccine series, and 38.4 percent of Lafayette County residents have been fully vaccinated, meaning they are two weeks post their second shot of either Pfizer or Moderna or two weeks post their J&J shot.

The county’s positivity rate was 8.34 percent as of September 6, according to the CDC COVID Data Tracker.

As a reminder, the health department is administering the Pfizer vaccine (available for 12+) Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its clinic.
