The Higginsville Board of Aldermen considered approval of a bill amending competitive bidding.

City Administrator Jeanette Dobson says it has not been updated in more than a decade.

Aldermen approved the request to increase the minimum general fund amount from $10,000 to $20,0000; and the utility fund from $30,000 to $60,000.

In other business, aldermen approved a bill for an agreement with public entities in Lafayette County for dispatch services.

Agencies included in this ordinance are: cities of Alma ($2,000); Bates City ($2,500); Concordia ($8,800); Corder ($2,000); Lake Lafayette ($2,000); Lexington ($30,520); Napoleon ($2,000); Odessa ($18,120); Waverly ($5,720); and Wellington ($2,060). Also included are Alma ($6,260), Concordia ($20,072), Corder ($6,400), Higginsville ($20,820), Mayview ($3,800) and Wellington ($9,788) Fire Districts, as well as the Odessa Fire & Rescue District ($35,440). The total revenue brought in by these entities to offset the county dispatch expenses is $178,300.

In other news, aldermen approved a request from the Higginsville Chamber of Commerce to close Main Street- from 18th to 22nd Streets- for the “Halloween Spooktacular” event from 3:15 to 5:45 p.m. Sunday, October 31. Aldermen also recognized Andy Maxwell for his 10 years of service to the city as a police and K-9 officer.
