Missouri Valley College held its 2021 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony inside the Malcolm Center for Student Life, during homecoming weekend, on Saturday, October 16. Five individuals and one team were inducted during the event.
Raul Orlando Roldan, 1977; Mike Hendrick, 1992; Justin Palmer, 1996; Carrie Harmon Moore, 1999; Coach Warren Dew; and the 1966 baseball team were inducted.
According to a press release, Roldan was a multi-year letterman in both track and cross country. He set long-distance records in both the three-mile run and six-mile run. He qualified for the NAIA Cross Country National Championship in 1974, and the marathon at the 1975 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship. He spent a long and distinguished career in the FBI following graduation.
Hedrick was a NAIA All-American at offensive line in 1990, and was a two-time first team all-conference selection in 1989 and 1990. He helped the Viking football team to an undefeated Heart of America Athletic Conference championship in 1989, and an appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series that season.
Palmer was a three-time Heart of America Athletic Conference first team all-conference selection, and was the 1993 Heart Defensive Player of the Year. Palmer was also a NAIA All-American in 1993, and scored 14 touchdowns on defense that season. He helped the team to a conference title and NAIA Football Championship Series appearance in 1994.
Harmon- Moore spent ten years as an athletic trainer at Missouri Valley College, then began work as an athletic trainer with the US Women’s Wrestling National Team in 2009. She worked with the women’s wrestling team at the 2012 London Olympic Games, and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Moore also served as athletic trainer of the National team at multiple Senior World Cups.
Dew led the Missouri Valley College baseball program to a pair of conference titles in 1972 and 1973. In addition to the team success, Dew was also named the Heart Baseball Coach of the Year in both 1972 and 1973.
Officials say the 1966 baseball team and coaching staff put together the program’s most successful season, capturing the Missouri Collegiate Athletic Union championship, and won the NAIA district regional championship. In the program’s only appearance at the NAIA World Series, the team finished 1-2, with a 6-5 win over New Mexico Highlands.
