Bothwell Regional Health Center is scheduled to hold a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, October 29, on the second floor of its Healing Arts Center at 3700 West 10th Street in Sedalia.

A news release says the move follows the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) updated standing health order that approved booster doses of the Moderna vaccine on October 22 for eligible populations following the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations.

A booster dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine can be administered to people at least six months after their initial series based on CDC guidance, which includes:
— People 65 years and older should receive a booster;
— Residents 18 years and older in longterm care settings should receive a booster;
— People aged 50-64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster;
— People aged 18-49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster; and
— People aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional settings (e.g., frontline medical workers, teachers, and first responders) may receive a booster.

People may walk in at the vaccine clinic; however, appointments are encouraged by calling (660) 829-8888; or scheduling in Bothwell’s patient portal, MyBothwellHealth at www.brhc.org/portal or in the MHealth app. There is no charge for the vaccine.

DHSS also recommends booster shots for people 18 years and older who got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least eight weeks ago. These individuals may receive either the Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer or Moderna vaccine as their booster dose.

This year’s flu vaccine also is available at all Bothwell COVID-19 vaccine clinics. All flu vaccines are quadrivalent (four-component), meaning they are designed to protect against four different flu viruses, and flu vaccines and COVID-19 vaccines can be given at the same time.
