Halloween is a time to see kids in cute costumes. What about the sugar rush? How do you keep your kids healthy when trick-or-treating?
Missouri WIC urges parents and/or guardians to plan ahead with several tips:
1. Have a healthy meal before walking around the neighborhood. That way their tummies will be full and it will reduce the temptation to snack.
2. Use a smaller bag to collect the treats. Don’t let your kids grab a pillowcase. Stick to a small bag and stop when it is full.
3. Only one piece of candy per house. Let the kids get one piece of candy at each house, then they can visit more houses.
4. Walk… Exercise while trick-or-treating and walk, don’t drive. Make a game to walk around as many neighborhoods as you can. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water and a flashlight.
