Robert E. “Doc” Pemberton, DVM, age 87, of Blackburn, MO, died Thursday, November 4, 2021, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, MO.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Doc and his daughter Kay Ann Mueller at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 20, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Blackburn, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church, followed by Masonic Services. Inurnment for “Doc” will be held in Blackburn Cemetery.

Born March 27, 1934, in rural Iberia, MO, he was the son of the late Emil Kenneth Pemberton and Edna Alice Farnham Pemberton. He was a 1952 graduate of Iberia High School. On September 5, 1952, he married Shirley Ann Jones who survives of the home. He was a 1959 graduate of the University of MO-College of Veterinary Medicine and lived in the Blackburn area since 1959 where he was owner/operator of Pemberton Veterinary Services and Pem Farms. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Barbee Lodge No. 217 A.F. and A.M., AVMA, MVMA, and National Cattlemen’s Association. He was dedicated to his practice and farming, and was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; three children, Janice Sue Padley (Jim) and Robert Lee Pemberton of rural Blackburn, and Lisa Diann Pemberton of Blackburn; a son-in-law, Larry Mueller of Blackburn; 11 grandchildren, Andrea Kueck (Galen), Jenny Mueller-Phariss (Carey), Sarah McClain (Jason), Kathryn Laramie (Justin), Wade Mueller (Baylie), Kyle Crutchfield (Jamie), Kinsey Harms (Brett), Katy Crutchfield (Max Langendorf),  Kaylor Langan (MyKaila), Katarina Langan and Lindsey Pemberton-Camp (Charlie); 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Steen of Weatherford, TX; one brother, Ronald Pemberton (Janet) of Eldon, MO; two sisters-in-law, Pat Pemberton of Springfield, MO and Rosalie Pemberton of Iberia, MO; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to his parents, “Doc” was preceded in death by one daughter, Kay Ann Mueller; two brothers, Kenneth Pemberton and Charles Pemberton; and a brother-in-law, Sherril Steen.
