Once it was a business on Marshall’s main thoroughfare. Now it is going to be torn down.

According to unofficial minutes from the Marshall School Board meeting this week, three bids were received for the demolition of the old Sweeney-Reser (Sweeney-Reser-Wills) Funeral Home on South Odell Avenue near Bueker Middle School.

The board approved a bid of $117,900 from England Excavating to demolish the structure.

In other news from the meeting, during her report, Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher proposed that all regular, permanent employees receive a stipend of $500, which will be earned by completing a survey and submitting it to Central Office. To be eligible for the stipend, employees must be employed by the district on January 3. The board unanimously approved the stipend, contingent upon the employee filling out the survey. Dawn Moore will make this payment sometime in January.

Also, Dr. Maher reported on the underfunded activities (DECA, FBLA, HOSA, SkillsUSA, golf, archery, swimming, softball, soccer, band, orchestra, and debate) which totaled approximately $195,115. The board agreed to proceed with funding these activities.

The school board candidate filing period runs through December 28. Contact central office for more details. The Municipal Election is Tuesday, April 5, 2022.

In addition, the board approved Connor Grossenburg to represent the district for the MSBA Belcher Scholarship.
