Shirley J. Asmussen, 68, of Alma, MO, died Friday, December 31, at her home.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 8, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Concordia, MO, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to family choice. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com

Born June 18, 1953, in Sweet Springs, MO, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Hemme and Viola Schnakenberg Hemme. On January 28, 1971, she married Larry W. Asmussen who survives of the home. Shirley was a 1971 graduate of Concordia High School and a 1987 graduate of Warrensburg Area Vo/Tech earning an LPN degree. She lived in Missouri most of her life and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Concordia. She worked in various health care settings, enjoyed her work, loved to ride Indian motorcycles and was lighthearted. After retirement, she worked at Jeremy’s Heating and Cooling (her son’s business) and she loved it.

Survivors include her husband, Larry; two sons, Jeremy Asmussen (Heather) and Jody Asmussen (Ashley) of Concordia; two stepchildren, Joshua Asmussen (Hanna Long) and Jessica Asmussen of Cedar Rapids, IA; four grandchildren, Chris, Lance and Jesenia Asmussen and Jade Turner; two step-grandchildren, Jazzalyn and Riley Asmussen; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donnie Hemme and Kenneth Hemme of Concordia; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a grandson, Trent Asmussen.
