Randal Gene “Randy or Barney” Sassmann, age 63, of Blackburn, MO, died from an unknown infection, Sunday, February 6, 2022, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 12, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Concordia, with Pastor Don Scurlock officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Three Groves Cemetery in rural Alma, MO.

Born January 4, 1959, in Marshall, MO, he was the son of Harvey Sassmann and Ruth Ann Samson Sassmann who survive of rural Alma. Randy grew up milking cows at the family dairy farm. On February 18, 1994, he married Camila Crowe who survives of the home. The majority of his professional career was working as a meat processing supervisor for several different companies. He enjoyed various outdoor activities including fishing, camping and gardening. One of Randy’s greatest accomplishments was in 2001 when he went to a 12-month Christian drug rehabilitation program. He was able to remain drug free for the past 21 years.

Survivors include his parents, Harvey and Ruth Ann; his wife, Camila; five children, Benjamin (Kristin) Sassmann of Wellington, MO, Ryan Sassmann of Warrensburg, MO, Cody Thompson of Des Moines, IA, Sierra (Jay) Makoski of Blackburn, and Becky (Layard) Taylor of Sedalia, MO; 12 grandchildren;  three great-grandchildren; three siblings, Patty (Dale) Dankenbring of Waverly, Dale (Loretta) Sassmann of Marshall and James (Tammy) Sassmann of Cole Camp, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

He will be remembered as a loving, son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.
