The Saline County Career Center in Marshall is scheduled to host over 300 eighth-, ninth- and 10th-grade students from Marshall High School and other area schools in the coming weeks.

A news release says the tours are part of the 2022-23 enrollment process at SCCC. Students will tour the buildings and hear presentations from current SCCC students and teachers about the nine program areas at the school.

The six supporting Career & Technical Students Organizations (CTSO’s) which are DECA, EdRising, FBLA, FFA, HOSA and SkillsUSA also are scheduled to be highlighted.

SCCC Director Brian Wilcoxson says, “The purpose of these tours is for students to be exposed to the Career & Technical Education (CTE) opportunities available to them through SCCC. CTE prepares students for the world of work or further education by introducing them to workplace competencies. It makes academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context.”

SCCC School Counselor Eric Lark adds, “We are extremely proud of our students and continually work to develop skills that are important regardless of whether they intend to go directly into the workforce or to college after high school. Students who have an academic plan for their high school years are a step ahead, and we hope these tours provide valuable information as they continue to explore career interests and their future high school classes.”

SCCC serves students from four area high schools- including Slater, Sweet Springs, Malta Bend and Marshall. Program areas include Building Trades, Agriculture Education, Automotive Technology, Culinary Arts, Health Science, Marketing, Information Technology, Teaching Professions and Business Education.
