A 33-year-old Sedalia man who was charged with a felony for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident that caused physical injury to another person nearly a year and a half ago pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in court and has been sentenced.

A probable-cause statement alleged Jesus Fierro-Gutierrez was the driver of a vehicle that caused a vehicle accident on October 10, 2020, that resulted in one man getting one of his fingers amputated.

Fierro-Gutierrez was charged with a felony for leaving the scene of an accident, causing physical injury. However, on March 21, as part of a plea deal, Fierro-Gutierrez pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner involving an accident.

Fierro-Gutierrez was sentenced to 180 days in jail and two years of supervised probation.
