Incoming Ward 1 Councilman Drew Green urged the Marshall City Council to not go through with approving the second reading of an ordinance, authorizing the transfer of funds from Marshall Municipal Utilities to the city for economic development purposes. The council had approved the first reading during a meeting on April 4.

At the council meeting on Monday, April 18, in his lengthy presentation- that became contentious at times-, Green explained the ordinance reads MMU will have to pay the city one-half of a percent of general revenue regardless of how good or bad the year has gone.

MMU General Manager Jeff Bergstrom explained.

Ward 2 Councilman Kirk Arends explained the idea has always been to grow the city of Marshall.

Later, the council tabled a decision on the second reading of the ordinance. Ward 4 Councilman Craig Thompson asked Bergstrom how much time he would need to get everything together and put together a formula that would work for MMU and the city. Bergstrom said about three months. So, the council pushed back a further vote and tabled this ordinance until July.
