A 36-year-old Sedalia man has been charged with felonies after a child was shot on Friday, July 22.

A report from the Sedalia Police Department says officers were dispatched to 1601 West 9th Street in reference a 5-year-old child who had been shot.

While officers were responding to the residence, the parents transported the child by personal vehicle to Bothwell Regional Health Center. The victim was treated, then flown by helicopter to Kansas City for more treatment of serious injuries.

After several interviews and an extensive investigation, it appeared Byron A. Guider unintentionally fired a weapon, and the bullet struck the child.

Court documents say Guider is charged with felonies for endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree- causing serious physical injury- and unlawful possession of a firearm. Bond is fixed at $75,000 cash or surety.

Guider was arraigned on Monday, July 25. He is due for a counsel-status and bond-reduction hearing at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
