The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a non-pricing meal service option for schools and school districts in low-income areas, high-poverty school districts.

According to minutes from the Slater School Board meeting on Tuesday, July 26, the board approved the district’s participation in the program for the 2022-23 school year, which means breakfast and lunch will be free for all students.

However, the board voted to approve the price of each extra milk to increase to 40 cents.

In addition, the board approved the bread bid from Springfield Foodservice; the milk bid from Prairie Farms; and the fuel bid from Ray-Carroll Fuels for the 2022-23 school year.

The board also approved the student, student activity, district staff and preschool handbooks.

In other news, the board approved the annual tax-levy hearing for 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 22.

The resignation letter submitted by board member and president Joey Gochenour, effective immediately, was accepted by the board. The district is seeking Gochenour’s replacement as a board member. The deadline to submit a letter of interest is 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9.
