The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen set the 2022 tax levy during its meeting on August 8.

According to unofficial minutes from the meeting, the board approved the first and second readings of a bill that set the 2022 tax levy at $1.8128 per $100 of assessed valuation. Aldermen voted unanimously to approve both readings.

In other news from the meeting, Tara Brewer with the Sweet Springs Restoration Foundation discussed a couple of upcoming events in Sweet Springs.

Brewer said the foundation was planning a Cheers and Beers to 50 years event to celebrate 50 years of homecomings. Brewer stated the event would be held after the homecoming football game on September 16, 2022. Brewer also said the foundation is hosting the Costumes and Cocktails and Trunks and Treats events on October 29, 2022.

Brewer requested Miller Street to be closed from Main Street to the alley for the homecoming event, and from Main Street to Marshall Street for the October events. Aldermen approved both requests. Aldermen also approved a motion to give the Sweet Springs Restoration Foundation a liquor license for the events.
