An attorney representing the Saline County Commission discussed paid time off for employees of the Assessor’s Office during its meeting on Thursday, August 18.
Saline County Assessor Jessica Goodman previously asked the commission to pay the employees for their paid time off.
Ivan Schraeder, the attorney representing the county commission, stated that there are two constitutional provisions that prohibit payment to employees who have been compensated.
Schraeder said the first provision is the employees could not be compensated because there were no services and that they would be getting paid a second time. The second provision involves assigning credit or benefit to any employee, which he said is not allowed by the constitution.
Goodman’s attorney and Schraeder continued to debate the issue. To listen to their entire discussion, click play at an audio link posted in this story.
