
Mary Alice (Sheffield) Flores, 90, of Sedalia, died Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Fair View Nursing Home.
She was born July 26, 1932 in Jefferson City, MO a daughter of the late Dr. Russell Harrison and Stella Leona Strobel Sheffield.
Mary Alice was a 1950 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. She attended Central Methodist College in Fayette and State Fair Community College. She worked for the city, county, state and federal governments. She was the chairman of the city’s Human Rights Commission in the 1980’s and was an activist for fairness. Her memberships included Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she served as President, Pettis County Historical Society and the Landlord’s Association. She enjoyed raising flowers and her lake cabin at Gravois Mills. Mary Alice was baptized at Central United Church of Christ in Jefferson City. She was a member of First Christian Church in Sedalia.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Ann Flores of Sedalia; a grandson Paul Alexander Kabler of Camdenton, MO; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Russell Guilvardo Flores; two sisters, Beatrice Arnold and Dorothy Lyles; and a half sister, Beverly Kingsolver.
Funeral services will be at 1p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Chad McMullin offciating. Pallbearers will be Roy Bennett, Johnny Marquess, Billy Jolly, Mark Thompson, Kyle Doty and Ron Mock. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Sedalia Parks Department, or Just Jump Ministries at First Christian Church, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
