Care Connection for Aging Services is seeking residents 60 and older as candidates for the Silver Haired Legislature. The Silver Haired Legislature is an elected body of citizens who promote legislative advocacy for older adults.
The Legislature includes 150 older adults representing all ten agencies on aging in Missouri. Care Connection oversees a delegation of twelve seats in the Silver Haired Legislature House of Representatives and three seats in the Senate.
Representative and Senate seats are open for election for those representing Johnson, Pettis, Carroll, Chariton, Lafayette and Saline Counties in the KMMO listening area.
The Legislature has served as a legitimate voice for older adults to support legislation to improve lives of senior Missourians since 1973. The Legislature meets two days in the fall in the Capitol in Jefferson City to conduct a model legislative session and convenes each spring at the Capitol for a regular Board of Directors meeting and a chance to meet with Missouri State Legislators and discuss achievements and priorities.
Anyone wishing to file can call or visit their local senior center. The candidate must agree in writing to abide by a code of ethics and declare candidacy and the declaration must be signed and mailed to Care Connection for Aging Services, P.O Box 1078, Warrensburg, Mo. 64093. The declaration must be postmarked by April 1, 2023.
