A Sedalia man has been charged after a reported assault in Pettis County on March 22.

According to a probable cause statement, officers were dispatched to 500 South Ohio Avenue for a reported assault. The victim told authorities he had been assaulted by a man wearing a brown coat with a green top underneath. Police observed a suspect matching that description running through alleyways. Officers caught up with the suspect, who was identified at Heath Lestage.

The victim told authorities that Lestage was following him to a nearby gas station. While the victim was leaving the gas station, he heard someone running towards him from behind, when Lestage allegedly punched the victim in the face. The victim fought back in self defense. After a brief fight, Lestage allegedly took one of the items the victim bought at the gas station, which was found along the path Lestage was traveling before his arrest.

Authorities noted the victims injuries, as well as some damage to his cell phone.

Court documents say Lestage is charged with felonies for robbery in the second degree, assault in the third degree, and resisting arrest. Bond has been set at $25,000 cash or surety.

Lestage was arraigned on March 24. He has a counsel status hearing scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Pettis County Circuit Court.
