Pettis County Joint Communications received a call that there had been a shooting at Smith-Cotton Junior High on Monday, March 27, 2023.

The Sedalia Police Department school resource officer and school security staff assigned to the campus searched the building while more officers responded to the scene. Pettis County deputies also responded to assist.

After a search of the building, no suspects or injured students were located.

The department says that there has been a national trend recently where prank callers have called schools to report acts of violence. The Sedalia Police Department will continue to investigate this report to determine who is responsible for making the call.
