
Anna Elizabeth Swords, 98, of Sedalia, died Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born a first generation American on October 22, 1924 in Sedalia, to August John and Elizabeth Lehnert Kaiser, who had emigrated to the United States from Germany. On August 29, 1946 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to Richard Joseph “Dick” Swords, who preceded her in death on August 28, 2012.
Anna was raised and educated in Sedalia and was a graduate of Smith-Cotton High School and the Sedalia Business College. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Anna was a loving mother and enjoyed cooking for large gatherings of family and friends.
She is survived by four children, Michael Swords (Donna), Meg Liston (Robert), Mary Eberting (Linville) and John Swords (Michelle) all of Sedalia; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Richard Joseph Swords, II and Patrick F. Swords; a grandson, Joshua Eberting; a brother, August “A.J.” Kaiser; and a sister, Rose Whapham.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2023 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Chapel with Father Joe Corel officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Josh Eberting Memorial Scholarship, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, or a charity of the donor’s choice in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
