burn-ban-3-9

Due to ongoing drought conditions that have been facing the area, a burn ban is now in effect for the City of Warrensburg. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Warrensburg is now classified as being in Extreme Drought conditions. The burn ban includes all recreational fires, fire pits, and other open burning.

Barbecue grills are allowed to be used. However, users are encouraged to take extra precautions when grilling. Dispose of charcoal ash in an appropriate manner. Maintain control of ashes and sparks from your grill by keeping the grill lid closed. Discard smoking materials such as cigarettes or cigars in a metal container or stamp out into dirt. Do not dispose of smoking materials in grass, planter boxes or pots, or in other similar combustible material. Also, watch sparks from equipment such as lawnmowers, chainsaws, and other power equipment. Under the current conditions, a natural cover fire can spread rapidly. Another great way to protect homes and property is keeping leaves, dead plant growth, and other combustible materials away from homes, garages, sheds, and decks.

Drought conditions will be monitored over the coming weeks and will dictate when open burning will be permitted again. It will take significant rainfall to improve conditions. If you have questions or need more information, please contact the Warrensburg Fire Department at 660-747-9136.
