The Marshall City Council and Mayor Vincent Lutterbie have decided to try and redefine the guidelines for a ‘Business From the Audience’ portion of the city council meetings.
This segment of the meetings will be temporarily suspended while an ad hoc committee reviews what should and should not be presented at council meetings. This is in accordance with the Missouri Sunshine Law and is allowed in Section 610. This segment reads as follows, “While the Sunshine Law mandates that most meetings of public governmental bodies shall be open to the public, it does not require that members of the public be permitted to speak at these meetings.”
It is the Mayor’s desire that this take about one month to complete, and it is anticipated that the new guidelines will be in effect by the August 15 meeting.
Should a citizen have a concern, he or she is welcome to take that concern to their council person or to the Mayor, and it will be dealt with at that point. The city office’s number is 660-886-2225.
