The Slater City Council voted to move Mayor Pro-Tem and councilman Terry Jordan to the position of Mayor during its meeting on Tuesday, July 18.
Jordan was serving as acting Mayor after the passing of Mayor Stephen Allegri. Jordan presented two options to the council. Jordan could take over the title of Mayor and fill out the remainder of Allegri’s term, or continue serving as Mayor Pro-Tem and preside over meetings until a new Mayor is elected.
After some consideration, the council voted to give Jordan the title of Mayor and serve the remainder of Allegri’s term, which expires in April 2024. The council approved this motion with a 7-1 vote, with councilperson Crystal Wiseman voting no. Jordan will now vacate his Ward 4 council seat with this decision, so the council will need to appoint a new Ward 4 Councilperson to fill the remainder of Jordan’s term, which expires in April 2025.
The council also had to nominate a new Mayor Pro-Tem. Matt Campbell was nominated and voted in as the new Mayor Pro-Tem. The council is now in the process of looking for a person to fill the Ward 4 seat.
