
The Sedalia Police Department arrested a suspect with a knife after an incident on Friday, July 21.
According to the department, officers responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of West 11th Street. While en route, officers were notified that the suspect had brandished a knife and that he was threatening to kill the neighbors.
When officers arrived on scene, the suspect had already fled to his residence and it was surrounded by law enforcement. There were three victims that were identified and they wanted to pursue charges against the suspect. A search warrant was sought out and obtained through the Pettis County Prosecutor’s Office. The search warrant was issued for the knife and the suspect’s person.
The Sedalia Police Department served the search warrant at the suspect’s residence and he was taken into custody without incident. Found during the search was the knife in question, according to the victims. The suspect was transported to the Pettis County Jail.
The arrested person was identified as 52-year-old Richard C. Paxton. The charges being requested on him are three counts of assault in the second degree, three counts of unlawful use of a weapon, three counts of harassment in the first degree, and armed criminal action. The Pettis County Prosecutor subsequently filed charges on Paxton and bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety.
