Richard Webster Johnson, age 78, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2023 surrounded by his family. Richard was born on December 21, 1944 in Boonville, Missouri to Ralph and Helen Johnson. Richard graduated from Glasgow High School in 1962. Richard then graduated from Central Methodist University in 1968 with a Bachelor’s in Accounting. Richard married Darlene Gotmer, his high school sweetheart, on July 20, 1968. On March 3, 1972, they were blessed with the birth of their child, Patrick Clinton, one of God’s special children. Patrick brought so much joy and love to both Darlene and Richard and was greatly loved by family and friends. Patrick went into the arms of God to be one of his special children where he could run and play like all the other children on November 12, 1997. Although Patrick was severely disabled, he lived ten years past his life expectancy because of the love and care he received every day from Darlene and Richard.

When they moved to Kansas City, Richard began work at Farmland Industries followed by employment several years later with Sprint and Yellow Freight where he retired. During his career at Farmland Industries, Richard earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Richard and Darlene enjoyed square dancing, going to the various casinos, and after retirement, spending winters in south Texas. Since Darlene never was much for cooking, she and Richard ate out a LOT and enjoyed going to dinner theatre. Richard and Darlene were active and dedicated members of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife Darlene Johnson, son Patrick Johnson, sister Louise (Jud) Kneuvean, parents Ralph and Helen Johnson, step mother Mary Monnig Johnson, and brother in law Marvin Bennett.

Richard is survived by sister Lanae Wagner of Glasgow, Missouri; sister in law Diane Bennett of Salisbury, Missouri; nieces and nephews Jud Kneuvean, Richie Kneuvean (Tia), Todd Wagner (Amy), Lisa Fuemmeler (Kevin), Curt Bennett (Brenda), and Bryan Bennett (Lisa). Also surviving are the siblings of Ralph and Mary Johnson’s blended family.

Donations in Richard Johnson’s memory can be made to the American Diabetes Association, St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salisbury, Missouri; St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund, Glasgow, Missouri; St. Charles Food Pantry, Gladstone, Missouri.

The family would like to thank caregivers and hospital staff at NorthCare Hospice and Tiffany Springs Senior Living for their care and dedication to Richard and his loved ones.
