Cody Bellinger homered twice and Justin Steele pitched six effective innings, helping the Chicago Cubs beat the Kansas City Royals 6-4 on Saturday.

Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki each hit a sacrifice fly for Chicago (63-59), which had dropped three of four. The Cubs are fighting for playoff positioning in the crowded NL standings.

Chicago jumped all over Royals starter Brady Singer. Singer allowed six runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks over 3 2/3 innings. The Royals bullpen combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings.

Bobby Witt Jr. had three hits and an RBI, while Salvador Perez went two for three with two runs scored as the Royals failed to complete the comeback.

Justin Steele won his 14th game of the season, going six innings and allowing two runs and striking out seven.

Adbert Alzolay closed out the ninth for his 17th save.
