A Sweet Springs Police Officer has been injured in a collision after a vehicle pursuit on Wednesday, October 4.
Officers from the Sweet Springs Police Department were involved in a pursuit of a 2017 Ram 2500 truck that had been reported stolen out of Johnson County. The suspect traveled eastbound at a high rate of speed on I-70.
At the 70 mile marker, the suspect abruptly crossed from the slow lane of travel toward the center median, causing a collision with a Sweet Springs Police car. Both the Ram truck and the Police Car were disabled in the center median of the Interstate. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. One Sweet Springs Police Officer was transported by ambulance to MU Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident.
Charges have been presented to the Saline County Prosecutors Office for review.
It was later determined that the suspect and vehicle had been involved in numerous criminal acts in Sedalia, Pettis County, and Johnson County, including at least one leaving the scene of an accident with injuries. Additional charges are pending in these jurisdictions.
