Janet Lucille Hagedorn was born on September 24, 1935, in Slater, MO, to the late Vincent F. and A. Catherine (Dawes) Hagedorn. She was the oldest of seven children. She attended St. Peter Church and graduated from Mercy Academy. On February 11, 1956, Janet married Leonard Newton who preceded her in death on January 23, 2014. They had three children: Keith who died on December 7, 2009, Peggy and Christie.

Though her mailing addresses have always ended with Missouri, Janet and Leonard enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. They belonged to several bridge clubs and spent many weekends “at the lake.” Janet owned H&R Block franchises in Marshall and Carrollton.

While Leonard was busy with carpentry and “stripping”, Janet managed the tax offices and published “the daily report”. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Monday Club, and the Red Hat Society. She loved to socialize-and to shop.

In her final week, Janet went from The Living Center to Fitzgibbon Hospital to Boone Hospital in Columbia, having celebrated Granny’s Christmas with family and friends on December 3.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Brovey and Christie Newton both of Marshall; five grandchildren: Michael Brovey (Erin), Melissa Seigfreid (Matt), Kim Ferrell (Josh), Corey Morrow (Hollie) and Rachael Newton; nine great-grandchildren; six siblings, V. Paul Hagedorn, Rebecca Brzuchalski (Richard), John L. Hagedorn (Kathy), Robert D. “Bob” Hagedorn (Carol), Thomas H. “Tom” Hagedorn (Debbie) and J. Alan Hagedorn;  numerous nieces and nephews and many “adopted” family members.
