A fatal crash was reported on Highway 65 in Saline County on Friday, December 29.

According to a report, the crash occurred when a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Katherine Peroni-Searles failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then traveled through the separator, struck an embankment, and went airborne before impacting the ground multiple times. Peroni-Searles was ejected from the vehicle.

Peroni-Searles was pronounced deceased at the scene. A seven-year-old occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City with serious injuries.

The crash occurred at 2:12 p.m. on northbound Highway 65, north of Keokuk Avenue.
