On March 3, 2024, the Missouri Division of Fire Safety was called to investigate an explosion reported at 24172 Quince Avenue in Slater, situated in Saline County.

The explosion took place within a vacant house. After investigation, DFS officials concluded that the explosion and subsequent fire were the result of a propane leak originating from the basement of the house. Two representatives from the Missouri Propane Safety Commission aided DFS in the investigation.
