The Marshall City Council approved several ordinances during its meeting on Tuesday, March 19.

The council approved the second reading of the land exchange agreement with the Marshall Public School District. The council worked together with the school district and Superintendent Caleb Petet during a special meeting to finalize the final details of the arrangement.

The council also approved the first reading of a new updated ordinance permitting the use of utility vehicles in the city of Marshall. The council had tabled an older version of this ordinance and decided to bring a new one to the floor after some changes. This new ordinance requires drivers to be at least 18-year-old in order to drive the specified utility vehicle on city streets. The second change that was made was that the utility vehicles were required to stay within the city limits of Marshall, inside of the jurisdiction of the Marshall Police Department. The council approved the first reading of the new ordinance and allowed the old one to die on the floor.

In other news, the council approved an event request for the Shopping Under the Sun event. The event is being held on Saturday, August 3. The Marshall Square, and several streets around it will be closed during the event.
