A man from Clinton, Iowa, faced charges on Wednesday following allegations of posing as a police officer and possessing an explosive device at a truck stop.
Jeramie James Burmeister, aged 42, was accused of felony possession of an illegal weapon and two misdemeanors: attempted false representation as a law enforcement officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was detained on a $15,000 cash-only bond, with an initial court appearance scheduled for Wednesday.
Responding to reports of an individual displaying a badge and soliciting money at a truck stop in Sweet Springs, a Saline County deputy encountered Burmeister.
Further investigation revealed track marks on Burmeister’s arms, indicating drug use, as well as an outstanding warrant for stalking in Colorado and two protection orders against him in that state.
Upon searching Burmeister’s van, authorities discovered various blades, a loaded rifle, a pipe-bomb-like device, and methamphetamine. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was summoned to handle the explosive device and secure the area.
Burmeister’s extensive criminal history was documented in the probable cause statement. As of today, he still remains in custody at the Saline County Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond.
