A woman from Saline County has been sentenced to prison for setting fire to her apartment complex. Samantha Edde, from Marshall, initially faced a first-degree arson charge, which was later supplemented with four more charges, including three counts of assault and animal abuse.
Earlier this month, Edde pled guilty to the arson charge, leading to the dismissal of the additional charges. She received a ten-year prison sentence.
Her jury trial had been scheduled to start on Tuesday.
The fire, reported in July 2022 at an apartment building on East Eastwood Street, was determined by firefighters to be intentional, originating from inside Edde’s front door, although she was not present when they arrived.
Residents informed investigators that Edde had previously set fires in the building, stating she intended to burn it down due to fears of eviction.
