The Congregation of the Slater Christian Church has donated the property located at 348 Main Street in Slater to the newly formed Slater Community Foundation. The foundation plans to use the property as a community center moving forward.
The Slater Community Foundation is a new non-profit foundation formed to support community services and development in Slater.
The Congregation of the Slater Christian Church had to cease operations in December 2023 due to a decrease in active membership. The church building was built in 1937 and will be preserved and remain as a landmark in the community and is recognized by the Missouri Historic Preservation Office in Slater due to its unique architectural design and style.
The Slater Community Foundation will use the building to open “The Gathering Place,” a community center that provides various spaces for community use, which includes the Chapel and the lower-level community rooms.
The Slater Community Foundation was established in April 2024, and will be governed by a three-member Board of Directors. Any Slater resident is encouraged to volunteer.
