John William “Jackie” Desmond, 79, of Marshall, MO, died Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall with Fr. Francis Doyle officiating.  Burial with military rites will follow at the Missouri State Veterans’ Cemetery in Higginsville.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.  Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church or the Missouri State Veterans’ Cemetery at Higginsville in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.  An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.

Born April 12, 1945, in Marshall, he was the son of the late John Alfred “Jack” Desmond and Anna Vogl Desmond.  Jackie lived in Saline County his entire life where he was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a graduate of Mercy Academy in Marshall.  He worked as a crane operator for over 40 years at Quinn Concrete, now CoreSlab, but was always a farmer at heart.  Jackie was a decorated United States Army veteran who served in Vietnam and he was proud to have served his country.

Survivors include one brother, Larry Desmond (Barbara) of rural Marshall; his fiancé, Pamela Ann Owens of the home; as well as extended family including Heather Brown of Slater, and close friends including Scott Tighe of Sedalia.
