Vinnie Pasquantino hit in all three Royals runs, but the well dried up again after the third inning as the San Diego Padres took control for a 7-3 win Saturday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium.

Pasquantino gave the Royals an early lead with a two-run home run in the first, then added a two-out single in the third to bring home Darion Blanco. But that was all the Royals could muster, as starting pitcher Alec Marsh gave up five runs in five innings to take the loss. That included a bases-clearing double to Ha-Seong Kim in the fourth that put the Padres up for good. Fernando Tatis Jr collected his tenth home run of the year, while Padres starter Randy Vasquez earned his first win of the season with three earned runs, four hits and five strikeouts over five innings.

The Royals slip to 35-25, now five games behind Cleveland for the AL Central lead. They’ve dropped six of their last seven contests. They hope to avoid the sweep this afternoon at 1:10; pregame is at 12:30 on KMMO.
