The St Louis Cardinals couldn’t hold onto a gift from the Colorado Rockies, falling 6-4 Saturday afternoon at Busch Stadium to fall into last place in the NL Central.

The Cardinals were scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, when a throwing error by Elehuris Montero allowed the Redbirds to score three runs on a fielder’s choice.  Nolan Arenado singled to bring in Paul Goldschmidt, giving the Cardinals their only lead of the game.  The Rockies promptly singled and then delivered a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to cap the scoring.  Andrew Kittredge was assessed his third loss and third blown save of the season, allowing three runs on three hits and one strikeout in his only inning.  Kyle Gibson went six innings, also allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven.

The Cardinals are now 30-33, 7.5 games behind Milwaukee.  They’ll seek to split the series this afternoon, with first pitch at 1:15 p.m.
