The Kansas City Royals clinched a series victory over the AL West-leading Seattle Mariners on Saturday afternoon with an 8-4 win at Kauffman Stadium. Both teams exchanged runs in the first, and Kansas City’s first lead game in the second when Adam Frazier ended a nine-pitch at bat with a solo shot to right field. Seattle reclaimed the lead in the fifth with two runs, but the Royals would seize it for good after RBIs in the bottom half from Nick Loftin and Vinnie Pasquantino. Seattle claws a run back in the sixth, but Kyle Isbel’s double in the sixth to score two, followed by a sacrifice fly in the eighth, put the game out of reach. Alex Marsh went five innings in the win, allowing all four Seattle runs off seven hits while striking out eight.
The Royals remain three games behind Cleveland in the AL Central with a record of 39-26. They go for the series sweep Sunday at 1:10 p.m. Pregame is 12:30 on KMMO AM 1300.
