A pitchers’ duel between the Royals’ Brady Singer and Dodgers’ Tyler Glasnow was decided with the help of another pitcher.

Shohei Ohtani sent two hits out of the park to lift the Dodgers ahead of the Royals, 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Dodgers Stadium. Brady Singer gave up the home runs to Ohtani in the third and sixth innings, then conceded a home run to Freddy Freeman later in the sixth to cap the scoring. Singer was tagged with his fourth loss of the year, allowing all three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four. Glasnow pitched seven innings to claim the win, allowing just three hits and one walk. His nine strikeouts brought his league-leading total to 125, contributing to just the second shutout of the Royals this season.

The Royals remain five games behind Cleveland for second in the AL Central at 41-32, but are now just a half-game ahead of Minnesota. After an off day today, the Royals will make their last-ever trip to Oakland to face the Athletics in a three-game series at O.Co Coliseum.
