Maikel Garcia and Bobby Witt Jr each blasted three-run home runs out of Coors Field on Sunday afternoon, leading the Kansas City Royals to a 10-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Garcia’s home run came in the second inning, after Freddy Fermin brought in the game’s first run. MJ Melendez added a solo home run in the seventh, countered by a single from Colorado’s Nolan Jones. Fermin and Michael Massey brought in runs in the eight, and Witt’s home run came in the ninth with the game well out of reach. Brady Singer allowed one run on six hits and two walks while recording seven punchouts, while Angel Zerpa and Kris Bubic each recorded a shutout inning in relief.
The Royals are now 49-43, nine games behind Cleveland in the AL Central and 1.5 games behind Boston for the third wild card spot. It’s a travel day for the Royals, ahead of a two-game series starting tomorrow in St Louis.
