Saline County’s incumbent district commissioners received their party’s nod Tuesday night to stay in office.

Stephanie Gooden is one step closer to retaining her seat as Northern District Commissioner, winning the Republican Party primary with 45 percent of the vote. Gooden’s 601 votes put her ahead of Otis Arndt’s 492, while Charlie Eades claimed 236 votes. Monte Fenner ran unopposed on the Democratic ballot for another term as Southern District Commissioner. Neither incumbent faces a challenger from the opposing party in November’s general election.

Jessica Adcock Goodman is on track to remain Saline County Assessor, finishing with 44 percent of the vote. Goodman claimed 1501 votes in the Republican primary, while challengers Shelly O’Bryan had 1043 and Tim Aulgur received 881.

Just over three-in-four votes for Saline County Sheriff in the Republican primary were cast for deputy Daniel Kirchhoff. Kirchhoff’s 2582 votes overwhelmed the 860 picked up by Sweet Springs police chief Shane Gooden. Kirchhoff has no Democrat challenger in his bid to succeed Cyndi Mullins as sheriff.

County Treasurer Jared Brewer and Public Administrator Paula J Barr were unopposed in their re-election bids.  4376 ballots were cast in Saline County, resulting in a voter turnout of 32.6 percent.
