Starting pitcher Kyle Gibson gave up four home runs to the Cincinnati Reds, as the St Louis Cardinals were swept 9-2 Wednesday night at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

Jonathan India accounted for two of the home runs off Gibson, including a three-run shot in the third inning. TJ Friedl and Tyler Stephenson also went yard off Gibson, with Friedl also tagging reliever Kyle Leahy with a home run in the seventh. The Cardinals offense was limited to a pair of RBI singles in the sixth, going 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position while stranding eight. Cincinnati’s Sam Moll picked up the win after pitching the third inning, recording two strikeouts. Gibson’s scoreline in the loss was seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out six.

The Cardinals (60-61) now fall into a tie with Cincinnati for second in the NL Central, 8.5 games behind Milwaukee and 4.5 games behind Atlanta in the wild card chase. The Cardinals have Thursday off to regroup and return to Busch Stadium, where the NL-leading Los Angeles Dodgers await them for a three-game series.
