Over a quarter-million dollars of sales took place Saturday afternoon at the Missouri State Fair Sale of Champions, raising funds for Youth In Agriculture scholarships.
Among the 13 lots in the sale was the Grand Champion Lamb, exhibited by Jillian Vogelsmeier of Sweet Springs. Vogelsmeier called the experience unreal, telling KMMO News she initially found it difficult to work with her lamb.
Vogelsmeier’s 146-pound Hampshire went for $31,500 and was purchased by Edward Jones and Associates with the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council. That total also included $21,075 in hometown support. Vogelsmeier says she’s blessed to be part of a supportive community.
Two other entries from Sweet Springs sold Saturday. Cole Murphy’s Grand Champion Barrow also went for $31,500, and was sold to Edward Jones and Associates. Ty Murphy’s Reserve Grand Champion Goat was bought by CFM Insurance for $14,500.
Combined with the inaugural Best of Missouri Sale, $357,490 was raised for Youth in Agriculture Scholarships.
